While every day may not be perfect, we can still enjoy life and find peace in the rockiest moments. Healing is not linear. I believe in providing an unconditionally safe and supportive space for you to begin to reflect, refocus, and redefine your mental health. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and I've had a breadth of experience working with an array of clients.
I specialize in treating those who have experienced trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger management, and behavioral issues. Together you'll learn the coping skills that work best for you including mindfulness, grounding techniques, CBT, narrative therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
The key to mental wellness is to be able to sit with our discomfort and learn what it is being communicated to us by that feeling. I will work with you to learn about yourself and guide you toward living a more empowered, healthier life.
Acknowledging, understanding, and speaking about your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and experiences can be a difficult task. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, who is empathetic and understanding, I strive to create a safe and comfortable space where clients can feel comfortable enough to be themselves and speak freely without judgment. I am bilingual and have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I tailor my therapeutic approach and utilize various types of therapy such as Client-Centered Therapy, Integrative Therapy, and CBT (just to name a few) to meet the needs of each individual client.
Throughout the course of my career, I have worked in different settings including an outpatient community mental health clinic and a university. I have worked collaboratively with clients to treat and address a variety of presenting problems including but not limited to: Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, as well as transitions and all of the stressors that tend to come along with those. My goal as a therapist is to help clients understand, manage, and reduce their symptoms in a healthy and effective manner so that they can live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.
After a fulfilling career in the hospitality industry, Gerard approached the move to the mental health world about 15 years ago with a lot of enthusiasm to help people who may be struggling. It began with a return to school to complete a bachelor's in Human Services, followed by a master's in Mental Health Counseling, before becoming licensed and earning further certificates and credentials. Gerard's experience is primarily working in individual and group sessions with adults and adolescents in agency and private practice settings.
